What we can learn from Netflix

Just recently Netflix decided to flip the user experience on its head and create an interactive show called Bandersnatch. If you haven’t seen it yet we suggest you make that your Friday night viewing as it’s an epic story, full of great actors, and the best thing about it is that you are in control.

Netflix cleverly planned the Bandersnatch story so that there could be multiple endings depending on the choices you make with your tv remote.

This is why you might hear people chatting about the show and asking each other ‘Did you chose Sugar Puffs or Frosties?’. A great flow diagram of the story can be seen here.

Now think presentations

It’s time we flipped the presentation space on its head in the same way. Rather than asking people to sit, listen, and view our presentations in the order and flow we have set up let’s start asking them what they want to focus on.

Begin your presentation by asking:

‘What would you like to know about first?’.

Once you know what’s important to the audience, take them there immediately. You can do this really easily by with the PowerPoint Zoom feature or for a slicker experience just use Prezi which is a great conversational presentation tool. Either way it’s time to change the way we all present and give people what they want straight away rather than deliver long drawn out presentations.

The benefits of presenting in this way are huge. Increased engagement, time saving, and being more memorable are just a few of the pay offs.

So go spend 90 minutes watching that great Netflix show and then get in touch with us if you’d like to see how easy it is to create interactive presentations.
